Getting started
On first launch you name the family and add yourself, then anyone else who lives there. There is no account to create. The iCloud account already signed in on the device is who you are, so make sure the right one is signed in before you start.
Adding your family
There is no Family tab. Tap your name and emoji at the top of Today, then choose Family & Sharing, and send an invitation from there. It goes out through iCloud, the way a shared album or a shared note does. Whoever accepts it sees the same family on their own device.
Something is not syncing
Almost always one of three things:
- The device is signed out of iCloud, or signed in to a different account.
- iCloud Drive is turned off for the account in Settings, which stops syncing for everything that uses it.
- The device has been offline since the change was made. Syncing catches up on its own.
Sync is not instant. A few seconds is normal, and longer if a device has been asleep.
No notifications
Check that notifications are allowed for Our Note in Settings. They are also generated on your own device rather than sent from a server, so a device that has not connected since the change will only raise them once it does.
Why the limits on an entry
An entry is 200 words and one photo, with a handful per person per day. That is on purpose, to keep the day readable rather than letting it become a chat. Threads on events and ideas have no such limit.

iPhone or iPad on iOS 18 or later, signed in to iCloud.

Removing someone from the family
Removing a person's profile inside Our Note takes their name off the family, and can delete what they wrote, but it does not end their access. Their device is still part of the iCloud share. To remove that, open Family & Sharing, go to the iCloud sharing sheet, and remove them as a participant there.
